Hiking is so fun!

We had high hopes of lots of camping trips this summer. That didn't happen with the closing of Camperworld.
 Bummer.
We decided we needed to get out and enjoy nature anyway.  I found us a short little hike to Battle Creek Falls.
Maddie refused to go.
She lost her electronic privileges.
She lost her opportunity to volunteer for the week.
She was being a brat.
She was forced to come.
We started up the hiking trail and were a little nervous.  A hike to a waterfall with a dry creek bed next to the trail was not very promising.
Lindsay started to whine.
And I started to question why on earth we try to do anything fun.
Luckily we passed some kids on their way down and they were drenched.  They told us we were almost there and then the kids got more excited.
We got to the falls and Maddie was the first one in.  She - gasp- smiled.  And laughed.  And had fun. But don't ask her - she didn't have any fun.  Neither did Lindsay.  Totally not worth it - if you ask them.

As a reward for going on the hike (because they were so charming and wonderful, right?), we stopped at Manila Pond on our way home.  I had packed their suits in the trunk and they were excited to get in and swim and show off their new swimming abilities.
Lexi was happiest on the beach with 2 cups and a shovel.  She got in once and fell down and that was the end of that.
