Earlier in the year we planned a Wakley family reunion at Bear Lake. Mary was planning on doing the craft show for Raspberry Days so we decided we should all go up and support her. As it got closer, Mary pulled out of the show, but we decided to still go up anyway. Jen and Jesse made a reservation at the KOA, and we held our breathe hoping that Camperworld would have a spot for us with Dad's card. Luckily, they did! We tented it, which was actually not all that bad. Lexi did better than she had on any of our previous camping trips this summer.
Within the first 15 minutes we were there, Maddie and Kaden were playing on the teeter totter and Kaden got whacked on the chin when he got off. Lots of blood, but luckily no stitches! Super sad, and kind of funny if you know all of our kids. Maddie and Kaden are the two most cautious people I know and they seem to have bad luck! They are our only kids that have both broken bones!
Our first day there we hit the craft show. I have this problem with craft shows. I see it, and think, "Why would I buy that, I can make that myself!" And then another project is born.
We were then lucky enough to be able to watch the Raspberry Days parade. The kids got TONS of GOOD candy. We love the Malad parade, but you either get taffy or taffy. Here they got a little bit of everything. Even the retirement home was throwing homemade cookies. Yup. Only in a small town.
We spent most of the days at the KOA with Jen and Jesse in their trailer. Super nice and the kids had so much fun! We didn't get around to dinner until about 9:30. After dinner, it started to rain and we headed back to our tent. Lindsay started to freak out about the lightening.
Freak out.
The rain stopped pretty quick, but the lightening went on for a few hours. Jeramy and I got tired of saying, "quit freaking out and go to bed!" She finally quieted down when Maddie got out her iPod and let her listen to some church music. Good sister. Mean mom.
Day two everyone tried to go up to Minnetonka Cave. I waited back at our camp with Lexi. They had a huge sandbox that she was dying to get into. It was super hot, and after about an hour, I finally moved the sand into the shade...all right, just a few buckets of it, but she was still happy. I kept waiting for the Camperworld people to come yell at me. They like their rules!
The cave tours were sold out for most of the day, so they came back. We decided on pizza for lunch and had to try the Old Ephraim 28 inch pizza. It was pretty good, and the kids got a kick out of it. We also had to go have a world famous raspberry shake. So, I'm not going to lie, I prefer Culver's.
Lindsay made $3 on this trip. She was so proud. Grandpa Kim paid her for her two front teeth that she'd lost earlier in the year. She was sure to let him know she'd never got her grandpa dollar for those bad boys. She also ran a race with her cousin Kaden and came in second. Jesse gave her a dollar anyway.
Kim and Mary left in the late afternoon. We relaxed for a while, then headed
to the lake. We drove for about a half hour up to North Shore. People were leaving in droves. We almost started to wonder what was wrong with the beach. We then realized it was rodeo night and most people were leaving for that. We pretty much had the whole beach to ourselves. It was a bit chilly, but not too bad. Jesse and Jeramy played like kids chasing each other in the water. Maddie got out there with them and played catch for a while. The rest of us stayed fairly close to shore.

We had planned on just getting up and going in the morning, but the kids really wanted to see their cousins one last time, so we met up and rented these super cool bikes with 4 sets of pedals. We called no fair since Jesse is currently training for Lotoja and rides a bike everyday for lots of miles. We were feeling the burn pretty early on! We rode into town and got another shake. (Still wasn't impressed). The kids all said that the bike ride was their favorite part of the whole trip. Jeramy and I really loved the area. Can't wait to go back when it's not raspberry days with a million people. And we were both amazed that we lived in Logan - a mere 45 minutes away- and never went there before. So pretty!
